MQM’s refusal to validate governor rule in Balochistan disappoints Shia Muslims
The MQM’s decision has compelled the government to postpone the February 6 scheduled joint session of the Parliament that was to validate the Governor rule in Baluchistan.
Karachi-based MQM has a history of overnight change of its positions on numerous issues and impression among masses has it that MQM uses such issues for blackmailing and get concessions from the PPP-led government.
It is surprising to see this 180 degree turn of the MQM because it had expressed full support to the demands of the heirs of martyrs of Alamdar Road Tragedy and the Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen that staged a countrywide protest against the failed and incompetent government of Baluchistan.
Invoking the article 234 of the Constitution of Pakistan, President Asif Zardari imposed the Governor rule in terrorism-hit Baluchistan province after the three days long countrywide sit-in protest against Shia genocide in Quetta.
Almost all the major political parties had assured their full support to the demands of the sitters-in.
Efforts are being made by the JUI-F for lifting of the Governor Rule in Baluchistan. MQM seems to be siding with the JUI-F, a pro-Taliban party and the Taliban has announced to continue attacks on the MQM. Altaf-led party, it is appeared, has been sacred of Taliban threats. MQM’s decision has disappointed Shiites across Pakistan.
