Iran backbone of Muslim world: Velayati
A senior Iranian official says the Islamic Republic is a role model for other Muslim nations in the world, vowing that the country will successfully shortcut the Western sanctions.

“Iran is the anchorage and backbone of the Muslim world,” Ali Akbar Velayati, a senior advisor to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, said at the Islamic Awakening Conference in the southwestern city of Bushehr on Wednesday.

Velayati described the Islamic awakening as the only way of liberating nations across the world and highlighted Iran’s role as the pioneer of this movement.

On Iran’s nuclear energy program, he stressed that peaceful nuclear technology will bring dignity for the Iranian nation, “which the West fears.”

“They are aware that if a country achieves nuclear technology, it will get mastery in 500 other fields of technology,” he explained.

Velayati downplayed the West’s sanctions against the Islamic Republic and referred to the resistance of the Iranian nation against the economic pressure as the key to grandeur in the international arena.

“The West should know that a country like Iran, with 15 neighboring countries, is immune to any economic sanctions, no matter if it faces difficult conditions to procure facilities,” he stated.

Ayatollah Khamenei’s advisor hailed Iran’s cultural heritage and Islamic identity as a significant source of confidence for the Islamic establishment.
