Iraq shoots suspicious Saudi plane
The governor of Dhi Qar, Yahya Mohammed Baqir al-Nasseri told the press the security forces responsible for the protection of Nasiriyah Central Prison had been forced to open fire onto a Saudi plane which was suspiciously hovering above its prison.
The governor noted in a press statement, “The security forces overseeing the protection of Nasiriyah central prison reported on Monday the presence of an aircraft … Following careful monitoring the plane was pursued and shot at.” He added that upon being engaged the plane retreated back to Saudi Arabia’s airspace.
Al-Nasseri justified the harsh stance on account that the prison accounts terrorists as inmates. There are over 1600 detainees at Nasiriyah prison.
The governor stressed that his security forces would remain on high alert as to prevent any break-out attempt or rescue operation. He added that Iraq would not tolerate any violations of its territorial sovereignty.
Officials have been keen to avoid yet another al-Qaeda jail break out.
