3 killed in fighting in Lebanon’s Tripoli
The fighting between the rival groups — one from Bab al-Tabbaneh and the other from Jabal Mohsen neighborhood — occurred on Thursday, the German Press Agency (DPA) reported.
Also on Thursday, a fourth person died of injuries he had sustained in Syria-related violence in the city a day before.
The fighting between the groups began earlier in the week.
While Bab al-Tebbaneh residents support militants fighting against the government of President Assad, the inhabitants of neighboring Jabal Mohsen are loyal to Assad.
Syria has been gripped by deadly unrest since 2011. According to reports, the Western powers and their regional allies — especially Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey — are supporting the militants operating inside Syria.
The United Nations says more than four million other Syrians will be forced out of their homes in 2014 by the escalating conflict in the country.
Two million Syrians are expected to take refuge outside the country while another 2.25 million are predicted to be internally displaced in the next year.
