Russian FM to visit Iran next week for talks
“A visit to Iran by Foreign Minister of Russia Lavrov has been set for December 10-11,” Russian Interfax news agency quoted a Foreign Ministry spokesman as saying on Friday.
The spokesperson added that the agenda for Lavrov’s trip “includes topics concerning bilateral relations, regional problems and steps to resolve issues related to [Iran’s] nuclear program in light of the agreements that were recently reached in Geneva.”
On November 24, Iran and the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council — the United States, Russia, France, China, and Britain — plus Germany sealed a six-month agreement in the Swiss city of Geneva to lay the groundwork for the full resolution of the West’s decade-old dispute with Iran over its nuclear energy program.
According to the agreement, in exchange for Tehran’s confidence-building measure to limit certain aspects of its nuclear activities, some of the existing sanctions against the Islamic Republic would be lifted.
