Four people, including a Shia scholar, were killed apparently on sectarian grounds on Monday. Two of these attacks took place in Orangi Town.

The Shia scholar who taught at the Khana-e-Farhang-e-Iran was shot dead and another injured in a drive-by shooting near the Fatimid Foundation Centre in Garden East.

Soldier Bazaar police said Aga Muhammad Salman, 45, was travelling in his car when he was attacked by two men riding a motorcycle. He breathed his last at the Aga Khan Hospital.

A young man, Asad Ali, was also injured in the attack.

The Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen said Salman’s murder was sectarian in nature. It added that three members of the Shia community including the scholar had been targeted in the last 12 hours.

Orangi Town killings

Two men were murdered in Orangi Town in gun attacks that seemed to be linked to each other.

Iqbal Market SHO Tasdeeq Waris Sheikh said Shahid Ameer, 27, who worked at an embroidery shop, was waiting for a bus near Chisti Nagar stop in Orangi Town in the morning when two men riding a motorcycle fired gunshots at him.

Ameer was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The SHO said the victim was shot in the head and chest with a 9mm pistol.

An hour after Ameer’s killing, Sarwar Imam, 32, who also worked at an embroidery shop and was a member of the Shia community, was shot dead near Quba Masjid in Block-L of Orangi Town.

Mominabad SHO Ahmed Butt said Sarwar was standing outside his house when two men riding a motorcycle arrived there and opened fire on him.

Sarwar suffered three bullet wounds to the head. The SHO said the attackers had used a 9mm pistol.

Police believe that the two attacks were linked and the second murder could be retaliatory attack following the killing of Ameer who belonged to the Sunni community.

Mechanic killed

A motor mechanic was murdered in Waheedabad, Gulbahar in what seemed to be another sectarian attack.

Rizvia police said Shazad Hussain Zaidi, 28, a member of the Shia community, was present at his shop when two men riding a motorcycle shot him multiple times. Zaidi died at the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

Dual murder

Two men were gunned down at Al-Badar Medical Store near Hassan Square in the morning.

Police said Mohammad Sajid, 45, and Shams-uz-Zaman, 35, the owner of the store and his employee respectively, were attacked by two men riding a motorcycle.

They were taken to the Liaquat National and Aga Khan hospitals where they expired. Their bodies were later shifted to the Jinnah Hospital. The police said Sajid was a resident of Gulshan-e-Iqbal and Shams-uz-Zaman, who hailed from Kashmir, lived on Abul Hasan Isphani Road.
