Iran FM criticizes Norway’s expulsion of Iranian students
“The expulsion of Iranian students has had adverse consequences on our public opinion and academic circles and this is detrimental to Norway,” Zarif said in a Monday meeting with new Norwegian Ambassador to Tehran Aud Lise Norheim.
He urged Norway to stop the move “because Iranian students are present in the country for education.”
The Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI) has in recent months sent letters to 10 Iranian post-graduates informing them to leave the country over international sanctions against Tehran related to its nuclear energy program.
The letters said Norway’s Police and Security Service have claimed that the academics’ studies could result in the transfer of sensitive technology which could allegedly help Iran develop its nuclear industry.
The Iranian minister further called for strengthening of Tehran-Oslo relations.
The Norwegian ambassador, who submitted a copy of her credentials to the Iranian foreign minister, said her country is seeking a solution to the problem of Iranian students.
She stressed the importance of improving ties with Iran and exchanging delegations between the two countries at different levels.
