Iran determined to expand ties with China: Velayati
Ali Akbar Velayati, who serves as a top adviser to Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, made the remarks at a meeting with a visiting Chinese delegation, headed by Zhang Deguang, a senior member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, in Tehran on Sunday.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran and China are two powerful countries in Asia which enjoy great potential for expansion of their ties,” Velayati said.
He added that building a strategic partnership between the two countries protects the “future of relations” from “periodic damage” and “interventions by others”.
Velayati said that Iran and China do not need to look for something in common, as the two countries share many cultural, political, social, and economic commonalities.
Zhang, for his part, said that Iran and China should boost relations in the light of rapid regional and international developments.
He also highlighted the cultural similarities between Iran and China which can lay the foundation for increasing cooperation.
